Title: Is video becoming the new photography – or is it?

We live in a world in motion. Whether you are scrolling through your phone, browsing the social media channels of any major brand, or revisiting past memories, the reality is clear: a still photograph freezes a moment, but video brings it to life. Yet, an astonishing number of creators continue to sell nothing but frozen frames, and even more clients believe that is all they need.
The truth is, video is no longer a mere optional add-on to be considered if the budget allows. It is the very core of modern visual storytelling. Looking at the world through the lens of a visual auteur, it has become evident to me that delivering only photographs means telling only half the story. Originating from the world of cinema, the term auteur traditionally describes a director whose distinctive style and vision imprint every moment of the work, making their signature instantly recognisable. For me, an auteur approach means I am not just a mechanical presence at a shoot, pressing the shutter button. My clients buy my eye, my taste, and my cinematic vision to bring an idea to full fruition. Consequently, I have made a conscious and uncompromising choice: I always include video and hybrid photography in my packages. I do not ask if you want a video; I pack it into my brand and wedding services because I know you will need it—if not today, then in a few years’ time.
Brands need motion, not just static poses
When executing brand and commercial photography for corporate clients, the objective is always to stand out from the crowd. In today’s digital marketing landscape—whether on Instagram, LinkedIn, or a company website—both algorithms and human eyes stop for video. A static image reveals who you are, but cinematic motion conveys how your business feels.
By always including both high-quality still photographs and short, cinematic brand videos (popularly known as cinematic reels and short-form video), businesses receive all the assets they require from a single session. This approach is efficient, cohesive, and easily monetised. You gain a visual identity that performs seamlessly across all platforms without the need to hire a separate video crew.
Not a replacement, but an equal partner
When I suggest that video is the new photography, I do not mean that traditional photography is becoming obsolete. On the contrary, video has not arrived to replace the still image, but to stand beside it as an equal, powerful partner. They serve the same narrative, yet appeal to different senses.
While a photograph captures a fraction of a second as a frozen moment—one you can gaze at and lose yourself in—video captures space and atmosphere in an entirely different manner. If a photograph is a sculpture, video is a dance. When brought together under a unified vision, they complement each other in a way neither could achieve alone. One sets the scene, while the other drives the rhythm.
Emotions amplified by motion in wedding photography
Documentary wedding photography is about preserving life’s most meaningful moments. A photograph captures the precise instant tears well up in someone’s eyes, but video preserves the laughter, the movement of the wedding dress on the dance floor, and that fleeting embrace that went unnoticed by everyone else in the celebration.
I view myself as a hybrid creator. This means that throughout the wedding day, I seamlessly capture both stunning photographic portraits and short, atmospheric video clips. Ultimately, the wedding couple receives more than a static image gallery; they receive a cinematic highlight film that transports them back to those authentic emotions within seconds—even decades down the line. For this reason, a wedding highlight video is automatically included in my full-day wedding photography packages.
A cohesive narrative driven by a single vision
The primary reason video is integrated into my packages is to guarantee quality and visual consistency. When the same photographer is responsible for both the stills and the video, the visual world remains unbroken. The light, shadows, colour grading, and that specific cinematic grain flow seamlessly from image to video.
You do not need to coordinate the schedules of two different creatives or worry that the styles of the video and photos will clash during an important project or milestone celebration. I manage the entirety of the visual execution. The world moves, and your story should move with it. Let’s create something cinematic together.
Cinematic video integrated seamlessly into your package
Visual storytelling is ultimately about atmosphere. For me, every project or wedding day is an opportunity to create something enduring that resonates for years to come. You receive not only technical reliability and top-tier photography, but also a cinematic video, seamlessly delivered within the same package.
