Do you dream of stunning portraits in natural light or urban settings, but the mere thought of standing in front of a camera makes your palms sweat? You are definitely not alone. Camera anxiety is one of the most natural human responses, and shooting in public locations can add even more pressure. That is why my approach is always built around stress-free photography and creating a safe space — we photograph entirely on your terms, with no stiff posing or rigid templates.
Outdoor location photography offers incredible creative possibilities. Natural light shifts and changes constantly, and the right environment gives a photo a sense of depth that is impossible to replicate in a studio. Whether you are on your own, with your partner, or bringing the whole family (LGBTQ+ families and all kinds of setups are more than welcome!), narrative location portraits capture genuine emotion. In this comprehensive guide, I will share what to look out for in outdoor shoots — and how we ensure you get natural, beautiful photos you will actually love.
The total price for the session is 380 euros (incl. VAT). The group size does not matter—the price remains the same whether I am photographing one person, a couple, or a whole family. No hidden fees, just a relaxed experience and beautiful, cinematic memories.

The Finnish climate and environment change drastically with the seasons, and every time of year brings its own distinct visual world. People often assume you can only shoot outdoors during the summer, but that is simply not true — every season has its own magic.

- Endless summer light and the golden hour: Summer is the classic prime time for outdoor photography. Long, warm summer evenings provide the perfect setting for the Golden Hour — the hour before sunset or right after sunrise. The light is soft, warm, and low, creating beautiful backlighting and a cinematic atmosphere along beaches, rocky shores, or the edge of a forest.
- Winter darkness and urban street portraits: In the winter, daylight lasts only a brief moment, but it opens the door to a completely different aesthetic. As dusk falls, the city streets come alive. Streetlights, glowing storefronts, and light reflecting off wet asphalt or snow create the perfect, dramatic "Nordic Noir" film feel for urban brand and street portraits.

2. Keeping things stress-free in public places
Camera anxiety can easily multiply if you feel like you are posing in public while bystanders watch. Because of this, I plan our locations and timing carefully in advance. I prefer quiet spots where we can shoot in complete privacy, away from curious eyes.
We also start every session at a relaxed pace. When we meet, bringing out the camera is the very last thing we do. First, we take a quiet walk to the spot, chat, and get a feel for the surroundings. Only when we both feel completely comfortable do we start creating images — entirely free of performance pressure. I have used this 15-minute warmup rule for years, and it has never failed to bring out natural, beautiful results in everyone I photograph.

3. The technical touch: The magic of vintage lenses outdoors
My 15+ years of experience as an Art Director and graphic designer have taught me that the best photographs do not come from clinical, digital sharpness—they come from soul. That is why I do much of my location work using authentic vintage lenses from the 1960s and 1970s.
Modern digital lenses are often relentlessly sharp, accentuating skin textures in a way that can make camera shyness worse. Classic vintage glass, however, renders light and shadow softly and poetically. When sunlight filters through leaves into an old lens, it creates natural, warm lens flares and a smooth, cinematic background blur (bokeh) that cannot be replicated digitally. The result naturally flatters the subject without needing heavy retouching.

4. What if the weather turns or an outdoor shoot isn't for you? Studio alternative
The Finnish weather is notoriously unpredictable. If we run into heavy rain, a harsh storm, or if the idea of shooting in a public space simply does not feel right to you, we always have a perfect backup plan.
You are warmly welcome to my studio in Meilahti, Helsinki. The studio offers a fully controlled, warm environment and absolute privacy without any risk of rain. The most important thing is that you feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire experience.
Summary: Your story, your terms
Photography should never feel like a performance you just want to get over with. The most beautiful and authentic images happen when you can relax, laugh, and trust that you are in understanding, experienced hands. A narrative location shoot is an investment in your memories and your self-confidence, and I promise the final result will leave you with a smile for decades to come.
